Ecole Centrale de Lyon
Ecole Centrale de Lyon (ECL) is one of the top French “Grandes Ecoles”. Four hundred fifty “ingénieurs” (degree equivalent to Master of Science) graduate each year from ECL in various technical domains. About 300 researchers are working on the campus in 6 main laboratories associated with the French National Center for Research (CNRS). The Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides et d’Acoustique (LMFA, UMR 5509) and the Laboratoire de Tribology et Dynamique des Systèmes (LTDS, UMR 5513) are 2 of these research units. The permanent staff of each is about 80 persons, with roughly the same number of PhD students and Post-Doc fellows. The research group directly involved in the programme will be the Dynamics group of LTDS (total permanent staff of about 30 persons). The main scientific fields covered are: aeroacoustics, outdoor sound propagation, active noise control, vibroacoustics, non linear dynamics. The Vibroacoustic and complex media group, is working on many different aspects of this problematic such as active composites for vibroacoustics, active filtering of medium and high frequency, model reduction strategies able to take into consideration smart and complex interfaces, regenerative control strategy and robust reliability analysis of active and adaptive systems. More generally the work of the group is devoted to modeling and optimization of the systems and structures dynamics. Research there is organized in four main topics of equal interest and level of expertise. At least three of them are of particular interest in the context of this proposal: mid- and high-frequency modeling in vibro-acoustics, active control and optimization of dynamical behavior. In each field, we develop and propose theoretical as well as practical solutions in order to predict dynamic responses and to master the vibro-acoustics of structures and systems. Noise and vibrations in aircraft are of particular interest for the research group at ECL, since they are in the focus of research in “mid- and high-frequency modeling in vibro-acoustics” and “active-control and optimization of dynamical behavior”. Related to those topics, the team was involved in many European projects (ENABLE and VisPER – 5th PCRD, CREDO – 7th PCRD, Mid-Frequency -7th PCRD). Ecole Centrale de Lyon has been involved in several mobility programs such as Marie Curie Actions (FP5, FP6 and FP7). In order to physically welcome foreign researchers and help them settle down in Lyon, an ECL contact has been devoted to this action, in close collaboration with the EURAXESS local contact and the Alfred Kastler Fundation. The foreign researchers can, in particular, be physically welcomed in their host town, be helped in obtaining their visa and residence card for researchers through a welcome protocole, receive information about accommodation, social security and insurance, banking, schooling, working conditions for their spouse, etc. On the other hand, ECL has adopted in 2007 the European Charter for Researchers and in 2013 the Gender equality Charter. The PhD students will be recruited following the rules of these two charters.
